OU basketball falls apart in second half at TCU
OU head coach Porter Moser stressed all week about taking care of the ball, but it came back to bite the Sooners on Wednesday.
Early turnovers combined with the lack of playmaking led to an 80-71 loss at TCU. It is OU’s first loss in conference play, falling to 1-1 and 13-2 overall.
Down 40-34 at halftime, Javian McCollum hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie it. But the Frogs responded with seven in a row after that and kept OU at a safe distance the rest of the way.
McCollum caught fire late, but it was too little and too late. OU trailed by as many as 17 points (78-61) before trying to rally late.
Milos Uzan continued his stellar play, flirting with a triple double. He finished with 13 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. That’s going to work.

Game 15 Takeaways from the couch
*Said it before and will be saying it again and again. Le’Tre Darthard and Rivaldo Soares are going to have wide open looks at 3-pointers all season. They won’t hit all of them, but they have to hit some. They simply did not do that. The duo combined to shoot 0 for 8 from 3-point territory vs. the Frogs. Soares had three points, Darthard with one.
*Might be time to expand the rotation? The first two games in the Big 12 have shown you’re going to need to be deeper than eight. It’s great to have eight starters, but when the foul trouble hits, then what? Moser is going to have to see what freshman Kaden Cooper and redshirt freshman Luke Northweather can do in conference play.
*You can appreciate the effort from John Hugley. This was the first game in a while where it felt like he had found his footing again. Starter Sam Godwin was in foul trouble for a good chunk of the night. He scored seven points in four minutes and disappeared. Hugley responded with 14 points and four rebounds.

It doesn’t get any easier. OU goes to Lawrence to look for its first win at Kansas since 1993. And to make matters worse? KU is coming off a shocking loss at Central Florida on Wednesday. You knew this week would be rough, and it certainly looks like it will continue to be that way.
