OU basketball head coach Porter Moser was always quick to say the goal wasn’t to be ranked in the AP top 25. That was just part of the process, part of the journey.

Now? The Sooners got fight to get back in the rankings. Another week with a loss, and OU has gone from No. 11 two weeks ago to No. 33 this week. Out of the poll and just hanging on in the Receiving Votes category.

OU put a temporary halt to its troubles with a victory at Kansas State on Tuesday. But the Sooners didn’t follow up at all with a weak effort in the loss at Central Florida.

Good news, as always, in the Big 12 is you can get right quickly. Or fall behind more, you choose. OU begins the week vs. No. 21 BYU at home Tuesday and then Bedlam with Oklahoma State in Norman on Saturday.

A steady downturn this team hasn’t seen this season. A pivotal week to attempt to get things back on track.

Team of the Week

Headed to Waco and Baylor. The Bears could have been teetering after losing at the buzzer at Texas and 3OT defeat at home vs. TCU. Instead? Bounce back in a major way. It started with a win at UCF. And in one of the craziest games of the season, Baylor outlasted Iowa State 70-68 in Waco. A game that featured a Scott Drew ejection, a 20-0 ISU run, and a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer overturned. That’s a week.

Up next

Second chance to get the two-game homestand right. The Sooners wasted this a couple weeks ago, going 0-2. Not only are these winnable vs. BYU and Oklahoma State, but the Cougars are No. 7 in the NET rankings. Beat BYU on Tuesday and then win Bedlam? Ooh, the narrative would change yet again for the OU season.

OU women rolling

Seasons can change just like that. The OU women were 6-5 at one point. But Jennie Baranczyk’s group has responded in a huge way. The Sooners have won nine of their last 10, 9-1 in the Big 12. That included victories vs. then-No. 2 Kansas State and at Oklahoma State last week. Now 15-6 and back in the AP poll at No. 24.
