OU basketball has a little fun in rout at McCasland
OU basketball just had to breathe a little bit. And start putting in that work on defense. Once it did? Everything fell into place.
The party at McCasland turned into just that. A rough first half was countered by a sensational start to the second half as No. 21 OU rolled to a 94-78 victory against visiting Alcorn State on Saturday night.
The game was at McCasland Field House, marking the second annual students-only event under head coach Porter Moser.
Alcorn State simply could not miss in the first half, almost literally. The Braves were 7-for-7 shooting from 3-point territory before their initial miss.
OU was never able to run away, taking a 49-41 halftime lead. But the initial five minutes of the second half saw the Sooners go off on a 19-7 run and a 20-point advantage.
The Sooners are 9-0 for the second straight season.
Game No. 9 OU Takeaways
*You want to have some fun? Invite Jeremiah Fears and Jalon Moore. They were the key cogs in the beginning of the second half.
Moore with the dunks. Fears with the assists. They got McCasland rocking, and everybody sort of relaxed a bit after a much more tense initial 20 minutes than anybody expected.

Moore scored 19 of his 20 points in the second half. Fears finished with 12 points and seven assists.
*OU continues to get shooting from somebody different. It was Brycen Goodine, as you would expect. But how about freshman Dayton Forsythe? Playing with confidence, Forsythe hit three 3-pointers in the first half. Added his fourth in the second half.
Goodine had 12 points, making four 3-pointers.
*A sort of game that Mo Wague needed. Buried on the bench lately, his best outing as a Sooner. Quality minutes with 12 points and six rebounds. OU needs all of its bigs to have confidence heading into SEC play next month.
*Duke Miles was everywhere defensively, leading the team with five steals. Fears added three and Forsythe had two. It was the defense that turned this one around.

It’s time for finals week, first. Then? No. 21 OU (9-0) is back for Bedlam. The Sooners and Oklahoma State are going to the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on 7 p.m. next Saturday. OU swept the Cowboys last season, in what could prove to be the final year the teams meet twice in the same season.
