The worst-kept secret is out for OU basketball. And that means some good news and time to celebrate for head coach Porter Moser and company.

Former St. Joseph’s guard Xzayvier Brown announced his commitment to the Sooners on Monday evening on his Instagram.

This has felt like a countdown for over a week. Not a matter of if OU would get Brown, but when. The clock finally struck zero Monday.

Xzayvier Brown (St. Joseph’s, G, 2 seasons)

6-2, 175

17.6 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 42% FGs, 90% FT.

This is a big one for Moser and staff. It is fully expected that Brown will be a two-for-one deal with his stepfather, Justin Scott, also joining the OU coaching staff.

OU had one assistant coach opening this cycle and sounds like the Sooners were able to check off those boxes pretty quickly.

Brown is the third piece to the portal puzzle for Moser. OU is looking for two more guys as the portal window closes Tuesday and beyond as everything begins to work itself out.

The Sooners are looking for a combo guard to complete the guard rotation. And then OU has been active in trying to find a backup power forward.

Again, with the window closing, everybody is going to have a pretty good idea of who is still out there and how to make it all come together. There is zero panic right now in finding those last two spots.

OU transfer portal additions

Nijel Pack (Miami, G, 1 season)

6-0, 185

13.9 points per game, 4.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds

Pack only played nine games last season for the Hurricanes. His departure from Kansas State to Miami was one of the benchmark moments in the portal/NIL. Pack was down to four schools with OU, KSU, Kansas and Indiana. He was leading the team in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game before injuring his foot Dec. 10 against Tennessee, and is expected to seek a medical hardship waiver to play his sixth season in college. In 122 games, he has knocked down 313 3-pointers while shooting just above 40 percent. Two in one day? That’s how you get on the transfer portal board.

Tae Davis (Notre Dame, PF, 1 season)

15.1 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 48% FGs

6-9, 208

A Power 4 transfer? Check. A big man Power 4 transfer? Oh yea, there was no way OU wasn’t going to at least make its pitch. Davis showed up at OU last Monday, and it keeps trending in the right direction. He started his career at Seton Hall and is someone who has shown the steady development and improvement with every season. OU has plenty of spots to fill in the frontcourt, and Davis is a tremendous starting point.
