OU basketball no match for No. 1-ranked Auburn
OU basketball was going to need a lot of things to go right to hang with No. 1 Auburn on the road. And a lot of those boxes simply weren’t checked.
The Tigers are too good. You almost have to play a flawless 40 minutes, and OU did not do that in a 98-70 loss to the top-ranked team in the country Tuesday night.
OU worked the margin down to 38-34 with two minutes to go in the first half, and then the wheels fell off for head coach Porter Moser and his crew.
Auburn scored the final six points to take a 10-point lead into the break. And then blitzed OU for a 10-3 run in the initial three minutes of the second half. A four-point game turned into a 17-point advantage just like that.
Game No. 22 OU Takeaways
*OU probably needed to shoot at least 50 percent to stand a chance. Maybe even 40 could have kept it competitive.

Instead? The Sooners were hovering around 30-32 percent for most of the night. Didn’t matter if was a two-point attempt or from 3-point territory, just wasn’t going down.
*The size of Auburn was a factor all night. Not just rebounding, where you would expect. Auburn also blocked 11 shots. OU, on the other hand, had zero.
*Dayton Forsythe led OU with 13 points. Jalon Moore pitched in with 11 points. Just a night where OU couldn’t find the offensive rhythm. This couldn’t be a game where you’d go two or three minutes without a field goal. Happened too frequently. Jeremiah Fears and Kobe Elvis both scored some late points, too, to finish with 10 points apiece.
Up next
Well, one leg of the top-five combo week is in the books. OU (16-6, 3-6) returns home to take on No. 4 Tennessee at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Vols actually host No. 15 Missouri on Wednesday night. So OU gets the benefit of one extra day of rest and being at home. Will it help? It’s also going to be a stripe out the Lloyd Noble Center event.
