OU basketball's goal? Cannot get complacent
It hasn’t been a problem yet for OU basketball, but the mental grind is about to hit another gear in a few weeks.
The rest of the college basketball world has figured out OU is someone to watch. And now we’ll see how the undefeated Sooners respond to that type of attention.
OU, now 11-0, is one of four unblemished teams left. That’s it. And barring something nuts, OU should enter 2025 with that zero still intact.
The barring something nuts part is what OU needs to be on watch for in these next couple of home games. That begins with Central Arkansas on Sunday at noon back at the Lloyd Noble Center.
“Don’t get comfortable,” senior Jalon Moore said. “Don’t feed into the outside noise, don’t feed into the people telling us that, ay, we’re this good, we’re doing this and that. You always gotta respect the game. Respect the game regardless of who we’re playing or whatever our ranking is our whatever it is.
“You gotta come out and you gotta perform every night, because that’s this game. It doesn’t matter what it is. You can have an off night one night and a team comes out on fire. So just don’t get comfortable and keep your foot on the gas.”

OU has earned some impressive non-conference wins. The Sooners have defeated six legitimate Power conference opponents. And the heart it showed against Michigan in overcoming an 11-point deficit with 10 minutes left? That was impressive by Porter Moser and company.
So maybe complacency won’t be a concern. Because right now? It’s confidence. You’re seeing it across the board. The steadiness of Moore and freshman sensation Jeremiah Fears.
Then you add in a timely performance by one the veterans. It happens every game. Against the Wolverines? That was Duke Miles.
“It shows that this team doesn’t have no let up,” Miles said. “We can take some punches. We can go down, whatever the case may be, and fight back. That Quad 1 win – that just shows we’re for real.”
