OU cancels spring games, announces new fan event for April 12

OU will no longer have a spring game, the school announced on Monday. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be something for Sooner fans on April 12.
Oklahoma joined several schools on Monday when it announced it won’t have its annual spring game this year. Texas, USC, Nebraska and others have all recently made the decision to cancel their spring game. This is largely due to the changes in the sport, with the spring transfer portal and a longer season with the expanded College Football Playoff. Many coaches have been vocal about wanting to cancel their spring games as they’ve no longer become necessary.
Instead, OU will have a “Crimson Combine” which will give fans the opportunity to interact with players and coaches. According to the press release, this will include “Oklahoma players and coaching staff members participating in combine-style drills, skills challenges, on-field fan engagement activities, autograph and photo opportunities, and more.”
