OU went with an experienced group of captains last week. This time around? Interesting mix of guys who have been in the program a bit, some new faces and the longest-tenured player on the team. But one position that stands out.

Defensive tackles Da’Jon Terry, Damonic Williams and Gracen Halton cornerback Woodi Washington, offensive tackle Michael Tarquin, offensive guard Febechi Nwaiwu are getting the captain nods.

It might be fitting there are three defensive tackles in that group. With Tennessee coming to town, a lot of eyes are on the Vols’ offense.

OU isn’t going to have much of a shot if it cannot contain the high-powered offense. Those defensive tackles will be huge in trying to put a stop to that.

“It’s going to be super fun. Starting conference play in the new conference is going to be one of my dreams,” safety Billy Bowman said after Saturday’s game. “Sure, it’s been the dream of some of my teammates, too. Tennessee is a good team. It’s a great matchup on our hands. We’ll get on them tomorrow.”

The Josh Heupel-Brent Venables dynamic. First game for OU in the SEC. ESPN’s College GameDay in town for the first time with fans since 2012 vs. Notre Dame. It’s all going to be about focus this week. The captains will play a huge role in making sure that gets done.

OU-Auburn still TBA

Only September, but we’re in those six-day windows. We know when OU travels to Auburn next weekend, it’ll be a mid-afternoon kick. However, Monday’s release didn’t give any more details between 2:30, 3:15 and a variety of networks.

Although the Tigers have struggled to begin 2024, a lot of people have circled this one. Hard to begin the SEC road schedule at Auburn. A place called cursed by Georgia quarterback Carson Beck back in the summer.
