OU center Sam Godwin out for regular season finale at Texas

You hoped for the best and feared the worst for OU center Sam Godwin. And now it’s a waiting game for Godwin and the Sooners.
Godwin was listed as out on the SEC-mandated availability report Friday night, 24 hours away from the season finale at Texas.
A source said Godwin suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain.
Godwin had been a man possessed in recent weeks, making 20 of his last 21 shots. He had a quick 12 points in the first 15 minutes Wednesday before injuring his knee and not returning.
The Sooners had a spirited effort the rest of the way in a 96-84 victory, but trying to go a full 40 minutes without Godwin will be a huge challenge.
“It was tough, man,” senior Jalon Moore said. “You know, that’s our brother, and to see him tough to see him go down, man, I mean, it hurt, but it also motivated us to go and get that win for him.”
Freshman Jeremiah Fears echoed those sentiments.
“We just did a great job of playing for him,” Fears said. “At halftime, we all went to go speak to him and ask him how he was doing. And we all talked about it in the locker room as well, like, ‘Let’s just do this for him,’ since he’s not able to finish his senior night out the right way.”

Godwin sparked the team initially, something head coach Porter Moser definitely wanted to point out. Now? It’s probably about trying to adjust to what the lineup will look like.
Mo Wague was a beast to pick up the slack for Godwin against the Tigers. He finished with 12 points and five rebounds. He’ll have to show up in a huge way once again, and Luke Northweather has to play big minutes and produce.
Don’t be surprised if Moser goes with Moore as the small ball center. Whoever, whatever and anything that it will possibly take.
Both OU and Texas are fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives. The winner will feel just a little bit better going into Nashville for the SEC Tournament. The loser knows it’s an uphill climb the rest of the way.
Moser goes for his first victory against Texas, and what a sweet one it would be Saturday night.
