OU commit Andy Bass puts on show in season opener
Oh, so that’s the big deal about Andy Bass. If you were wondering why so many in-state fans were excited about Bass picking Oklahoma last week, there it is.
Bass, a three-star athlete from Oklahoma City Heritage Hall, accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in Heritage Hall’s 47-24 victory against Oklahoma City Millwood on Thursday evening.
Bass’ position as a Sooner is to be determined, but he put on a show as a dual-threat quarterback vs. the Falcons. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 90 yards and 14 attempts and three more scores.
How good was Bass? He had a 91-yard touchdown run called back by penalty, only to throw an 89-yard touchdown later in the same drive.
SoonerScoop’s Eddie Radosevich was there for the Bass show.
Millwood wide receiver Jaden Nickens, a 2025 OU commit, also had a touchdown reception. Nickens had two receptions in the game. The story of this night, though, was Bass. He picked OU last week from a final three of the Sooners, Syracuse and Kansas State.

Right now? He’s being looked at as a preferred walk-on. But if he keeps putting up numbers like this against competition like Millwood, Bass is showing why he could earn a scholarship down the road.
Heck, he doesn’t have to look too far for inspiration and example. Gavin Freeman was once in the same shoes as Bass. Freeman was a star at Heritage Hall and walked on for the Sooners for the 2022 class.
Freeman earned a full scholarship last week. That absolutely could be the same path Bass takes when he arrives in Norman.
Until then, though, he’ll just have to continue to put on performances like he did Thursday night to show people what he can do.
