OU quarterback commit Kevin Sperry can finally take a deep breath and relax after the chaotic last couple of weeks.

Locked down as the Sooners quarterback commitment for the 2025 class, that hasn’t been where the craziness has occurred for Sperry.

Nobody is second-guessing anything in that regard. No, instead it’s about the high school destination. Sperry has transferred from Prosper (Texas) Rock Hill to Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert. And the previous two weeks meant a bunch of driving back and forth until finding his new home.

“We just moved in Sunday,” Sperry told SoonerScoop.com earlier this week. “I’m really excited to get things going. Honestly, it hit me maybe Sunday about the move just because it was the first time I got to relax from all the driving back and forth.

“That first week was pretty tough. That’s the sacrifices we had to make for this transition.”

That part might have been a hassle. The football part? Hey, things are rolling there. It’s only summer conditioning time, so you can’t learn too much. But early indications from all involved say this move is going to be a major positive.

“He’s the kind of kid that if you didn’t know anything about him, you’d have no clue,” Carl Albert head coach Mike Dunn said. “Just put his head down, and he’s gone to work. He’s a hard worker. A great kid, phenomenal family. That is what makes things like this even easier.

“When people come in and just fit in. He’s come in and worked just as hard as everybody else. He hasn’t talked about himself. Unless you ask him, he’s not going to tell you he’s the quarterback commit at OU. He wouldn’t tell you. It’s been great. You can tell he has that It factor about him.”

Sperry has been a frequent visitor to the state since committing to Oklahoma in March. It went to that next level this previous month as Sperry participated in all five on-campus camp days for head coach Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby.

It was during those days that helped Sperry and his family realize they wanted to remain closer to his future home.

Carl Albert is not a bad spot to pick, coming off yet another state championship season.

“It’s been great. Very smooth,” Sperry said. “Accepted by everybody. Family atmosphere here. I’m excited to get to work. I think what separates Carl Albert is the work ethic and the maturity of everybody in this building. Especially the players. They’re locked in and know what they need to do.

“They give full effort on every single thing they do. Whether that’s being a good teammate and picking everybody up or workouts and things like that. I’m excited to be a part of this culture. I know this program is on the rise, and we have a fully loaded team.”

It just so happens OU will be making a lot of stops at CA in the years to come. The Sooners have offers out to three other 2025 Titans (Trynae Washington, Trystan Haynes, Marcus James). And now Sperry has company in the commitment department with 2024 running back Xavier Robinson.

“When he came in, he really shocked me,” Robinson said. “I saw him throwing some balls at the OU camp. I was really shocked about his game. He’s also really mature. Having him at QB, he can make a big impact.”

A crazy month of driving, Airbnbs, adapting to a new home, but it’s all working out for Sperry.
