The OU women’s basketball season ended on Saturday in Spokane, Washington.

The third-seeded Sooners fell to second-seeded UConn 82-59 in the Sweet 16. Oklahoma hung with the Huskies in the first half, despite being 15.5-point underdogs. OU led at halftime 36-32. But a 16-0 run by UConn in the third quarter was too much for the Sooners to overcome. Oklahoma got outscored 27-10 in the third and 23-13 in the fourth.

Senior guard Paige Bueckers led the way for UConn. She scored 40 points for the Huskies, as the Sooners struggled to stop her. Bueckers was 6-of-8 from 3 and scored 19 points in the fourth quarter. OU was led by senior guard Payton Verhuslt, who finished with 16 points, scoring 13 of those in the second quarter. Junior center Raegan Beers struggled in the game, scoring 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the field.

But what really did Oklahoma in on Saturday was the turnovers. OU turned the ball over 23 times, which resulted in 18 points for UConn. The Huskies only turned the ball over 10 times with nine of those coming in the first half.

OU finished the season 27-8, reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.
