OU football lands WR Jer'Michael Carter from NCAA transfer portal

OU has landed McNeese wide receiver Jer’Michael Carter from the NCAA transfer portal, it was announced on social media.
The Sooners hosted Carter for a visit on Friday, as he chose Oklahoma over Baylor, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Utah. At 6-foot-4, 192 pounds, Carter is exactly what OU is looking for at the position. Last season, he totaled 37 receptions for 537 yards and three touchdowns. From Kentwood High School in Louisiana, Carter was first team All-District 9-1A as a wide receiver in the 2023 class.
Carter was a priority for Oklahoma late in the portal, as it wanted to add depth to its receiver room. OU has now added five receivers through the portal since the end of the 2024 season. Javonnie Gibson from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Isaiah Staegna from Arkansas, Keontez Lewis from Southern Illinois and Josiah Martin from Cal transferred to Oklahoma during the winter cycle.
The Sooners have overhauled their receiver room, after their top five guys got injured last season and five hit the portal in the winter. Oklahoma is hopeful it has plenty of playmakers at wideout to play alongside Washington State quarterback John Mateer.

“It was an opportunity for some guys to grow up a little bit faster and step up a little faster,” offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said. “It’s awesome for their development. That was just their mindset. This is an opportunity for us to go out and get better. And really show everyone all what we can do. Being the kid that he is, it ultimately turned into a positive with his attitude. Receivers fed off it. It was good energy because of Javonnie.”
Carter joins Cal running back Jaydn Ott, Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, Utah State defensive tackle Ricky Lolohea and UTSA kicker Tate Sandell, who signed with OU on Friday morning, are all already in the boat.
