It’s preseason watchlist season. And OU has plenty of players appearing on different watchlists.

To close the week senior punter Luke Elzinga was named to the Ray Guy Award watchlist on Friday. Taking over the starting punter duties midway through the year, Elzinga averaged 45.1 yards per punt last season with 13 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.

Senior linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman were named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watchlist, which is given to the best overall defensive player in college football. Oklahoma has won the award twice. Cornerback Derrick Strait won it in 2003 and safety Roy Williams won it in 2001. Billy Bowman was also named to the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award watchlist.

Oklahoma junior running back Gavin Sawchuk was named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watchlist, college football’s premiere award for community service. Past Oklahoma recipients are Gabe Ikard in 2013 and Ty Darlington in 2015.

Quarterback Jackson Arnold was also recently on a watchlist, making the Maxwell list on Monday, which is given to the best overall player in college football. Oklahoma has won it three times — Baker Mayfield in 2017, Jason White in 2004 and Tommy McDonald in 1956.
