OU head coach Patty Gasso wishing speedy recovery for Jordy Bahl
Those bonds Jordy Bahl made at OU, they’ll never go away. Not now, not ever and not during another rough moment that Bahl is going through.
Nebraska pitcher and Oklahoma transfer Jordy Bahl suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Huskers’ first game of the season. She announced on Tuesday on Instagram that she tore her ACL in her left knee.
“I wasn’t there, but my coaches were there scouting that game,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said. “They saw it and knew that something wasn’t going to be good. Jordy, I think she was walking around like you thought maybe it’s just a sprain or something. She is so strong that her legs can maintain her kneecap, you know what I mean? When you get your ACL torn, you’re in massive pain and you’re not able to really walk. It was pretty amazing how she was just kind of moving around. It’s horrible for anybody, really.
“Jordy went through injuries as a freshman. You wish her well. She was sitting at the airport with our team, talking with our team. There are still the memories. The last memory they had was singing on stage with Toby Keith. That’s something they will cherish, especially now, forever. This bond that they still have because you’re on these battlefields together. Everyone here wishes her well, wishes a speedy recovery. I’m sure she’ll come back, knowing her, better than she ever has.”
Bahl will redshirt for the 2024 season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
“In game one of opening weekend in Puerto Vallarta, I experienced an injury to my ACL that is going to cause me to support the Red Team in a different way than anticipated for the 2024 season,” Bahl said on Instagram.
The injury occurred in the third inning of the season opener last weekend in Mexico against Washington.
“With a heart thankful for God’s plan and timing, I will be redshirting this year and looking forward to a season of growth and learning from a different point of view,” Bahl said. “I’m thankful for the support of my family, friends, coaches and staff. I’m truly blessed to have so many wonderful and loving people in my life.”
Bahl spent the first two seasons of her college career at OU, where she racked up a 44-2 record with a 0.99 ERA. She also earned Most Outstanding Player honors for the Women’s College World Series during the Sooners’ national title run last season.

“Obviously, we are all disappointed to hear the news of Jordy’s season-ending knee injury,” said Nebraska head coach Rhonda Revelle in a statement. “We are grateful that Jordy is in excellent care with our medical team and are confident in a full recovery. We fully expect that Jordy will be granted a hardship for this season and be back in the jersey for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.”
Maxwell earns weekly honor
That is one way to make your debut. OU’s Kelly Maxwell was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Maxwell, the transfer from Oklahoma State, was sensational in her two outings at the Puerto Vallarta College Classic last weekend.
She went 2-0 in her two appearances, wins against top-10 teams Duke and Washington. Maxwell threw 7.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.
Duke and Washington combined to go 1-for-23 (.043 average) against Maxwell. Against Duke, Maxwell retired the final 11 batters she faced.
Against Washington, she showed she is ready for that clutch moment in helping OU to the 4-3 victory in eight innings preserve the winning streak.
OU went 4-0 over the weekend and enters the Cowgirl Classic on Friday with a 57-game winning streak.
