OU offers quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg

OU continues to try to find that second quarterback for the 2024 class. This time around, head coach Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby are eyeing someone committed elsewhere.
Committed elsewhere, but it’s clearly a very unique set of circumstances at Northwestern right now. The Sooners offered Northwestern commit Brendan Zurbrugg on Tuesday night.
Zurbrugg committed to the Wildcats last month. Obviously, with the firing of head coach Pat Fitzgerald after the hazing scandal rocked the program, it’s hard to know where things will go from here.
Zurbrugg, from Alliance (Ohio) High, is 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. He is ranked much higher by On3 and ESPN than the other recruiting services. On3 has Zurbrugg has a high three-star prospect (88 overall), No. 32 quarterback and No. 18 in Ohio.
The Sooners have one quarterback commitment in Frisco (Texas) Emerson’s Michael Hawkins. But when you look at OU’s 2024 room, you realize it could dwindle very quickly.
Lebby is well aware of that and has been aggressive in recent months in trying to find another signal-caller to join Hawkins.

OU has a major recruiting event happening next week for the 2024 class. It will be very interesting and telling if Zurbrugg, recruited as a dual-threat quarterback, could be able to make that trip.
It has been an interesting summer for Zurbrugg. He committed to Syracuse just over a month ago. Then flipped to the Wildcats a week later.
It’s still early to gauge exactly what kind of interest Zurbrugg might have. But, again, it’s easy to recognize how important a second quarterback is to OU for the 2024 class.
The Sooners are on a recruiting roll right now. Every week is seeing one major commit after the next. The fun hasn’t stopped this week, either. Sounds like OU is hoping maybe Zurbrugg can join that group in the weeks to come.
