OU-OSU set for 2:30 p.m. Bedlam kickoff in Stillwater
It could be the final Bedlam for a long, long time, and now we know OU and Oklahoma State will play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The recent surge, four-game winning streak has the Cowboys back in the Big 12 championship picture. OU is trying keep pace and show its championship mettle.
OSU (6-2, 4-1) destroyed Cincinnati, while the Sooners (7-1, 4-1) will be bouncing back from their first loss of the season.
And now? Well, let the Bedlam debate rage on.
“Look, I’m not in control of whether or not we play Oklahoma State,” said head coach Brent Venables at Big 12 media days. “I love college football. I love the traditions of the game, love rivalry games. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have played for over 100 years, and Oklahoma has been dang good in those games for a long time.
“But whether or not we play them in the future, nobody is asking me what I think. If they do ask me, I’ll tell them what I think. I’d love to play the game. But we’re going to play the schedule that they put in front of us.”
And then, of course, there is OSU head coach Mike Gundy. The only reason Venables had to address the issue in July because of the passionate response from Gundy. Would seriously doubt anything has changed his opinion in three months.
“The Bedlam game is over because Oklahoma chose to leave the Big 12, period,” said OSU head coach Mike Gundy at Big 12 media days. “It’s not nothing to do with Oklahoma State. Do I like that? No. Do I like that conferences have broken up in the past? No, I don’t.
“But I also know that we have to control what we can control, which is conference realignment is there. It’s probably still going on. Wherever we all end up and whatever schedule they give us to play, we all play it and do the best we can.”

The Big 12 did go crazy in expansion, adding Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah to the conference next season since Gundy’s comments. OU and Texas, of course, will be in the SEC next season.
Ever since the Sooners and Horns announced their decision to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, the Bedlam question has lingered. Will it ever come back? Will it become a traditional non-conference game at some point down the road?
All of that remains to be determined.
This will be the first non-night Bedlam kickoff in Stillwater since 2017 (62-52 OU win). And the first overall since 2018 (48-47 OU win). The 2019-22 editions were all primetime affairs, with OU going 3-1 in that span.
It’ll be Bedlam one more time. Maybe for the final time. Saturday afternoon in Stillwater in what will be some sort of atmosphere.
“Oklahoma State is not going to change what we do because Oklahoma chose to go to the SEC,” said Gundy in July. “They need to change what they do because they’re the ones that made their mind up to go to the SEC.”
