OU outfielder Maya Bland to enter the transfer portal

Nobody that is entering the transfer portal for OU softball is because they can’t play at an elite level.
That’s far from it. The question simply becomes whether they can get that type of opportunity in Norman.
After two seasons? Outfielder Maya Bland seems to know if she wants to show what she can do on a daily basis, it won’t be at OU.
Bland becomes the second member of the OU squad to enter the portal, announcing her intentions Wednesday afternoon on her Instagram page.
“Thank you Sooner Nation for the love and support that you’ve shown me these past two years, I greatly appreciate it,” Bland said. “God has a new path for me, but I will cherish my time as a Sooner.”
Bland had back-to-back moments for OU as a sophomore. A three-run homer in Bedlam against Oklahoma State at Devon Park. Then came right back with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh against Alabama with OU losing 1-0.
Bland played in 39 games and started in seven this season. She scored 18 runs to go with three home runs and 10 RBIs and three stolen bases.

She was primarily used as a pinch-runner as a freshman, where she scored 24 times and had eight stolen bases and four RBIs.
Bland joins freshman catcher Corri Hicks in entering the portal. Hicks announced Tuesday afternoon her intentions to leave Norman.
OU has the No. 1-ranked recruiting class coming in and has a bevy of talented freshmen returning. It’s not shocking to see some portal departures, and head coach Patty Gasso absolutely will not try to stop someone from attempting to find their happiness.
In other words? There are, after all, probably going to be more for OU. It’s the nature of the beast in this portal/NIL era.
