A very familiar face is one of the OU captains this week. But not sure, back in late-September, if anybody thought it would happen again.

Welcome back to being a captain for quarterback Jackson Arnold. His strange ride in 2024 takes another turn as one of the six named for OU as the Sooners head to Missouri on Saturday night.

Arnold is joined by tight end Bauer Sharp, defensive tackle Damonic Williams, linebacker Danny Stutsman, safety Billy Bowman and defensive tackle Gracen Halton.

Arnold, of course, was the captain heading into the season. Then he was benched. And since returning? He has simply been different. In a good way, in the best of ways.

Chapter II for Arnold

“So that’s another guy I’m really proud of on the offense is Jackson because there was a time where things weren’t necessarily going his way but he never flinched, he never backed down, he just stayed to who he is, stayed to being a leader, stayed to being a good teammate,” tight end Kaden Helms said. “Coach V talks about good Karma, so if you keep doing the right thing over and over then eventually life is going to turn out the way you want it to and I think Jackson is a testament to that. So proud of him for sure.”

“Jackson, I mean, obviously the start of the season didn’t really go the way he wanted it to, but he’s bounced back,” center Troy Everett said. “The one thing I noticed from him is he’s having fun. He’s going out there, he’s being a leader. He’s showing up every single day, same guy.

“Me and him joke around all the time, like, I went out there and I snapped the ball over his head. I was like, ‘Dude, that’s on me.’ He gets over there, next play, we’re good. Just go from there. I know I said Eddy’s like a little brother, that’s who really I think is like my little brother out there.”
