OU football preseason award watch list: Gavin Sawchuk named to Doak Walker
A second week’s worth of preseason watchlist announcements began on Monday with OU senior linebacker Danny Stutsman named to the Walter Camp Award watch list.
Given annually to college football’s Player of the Year as selected by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, it’s the nation’s fourth longest annual postseason award. Stutsman was just one of nine defenders on the list of 50 players to watch. Previous Sooners to win the award are: Baker Mayfield (2017), Josh Heupel (2000), Billy Sims (1978) and Steve Owens (1969).
On Tuesday, redshirt sophomore running back Gavin Sawchuk was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, presented annually to the nation’s top running back. Sawchuk led the Sooners in rushing a season ago, collecting five consecutive 100-yard games to close the 2023 season.
