OU senior Sam Godwin determined to keep Bedlam trophy again
Personally, the last Bedlam encounter didn’t go the way OU center Sam Godwin wanted it to for himself. If you remember, Godwin picked up a technical foul on the bench that was his fifth foul. Out of the game just like that in Stillwater.
Few might remember because of the epic buzzer-beater by Javian McCollum to help OU sweep the Cowboys last season.
But Godwin remembers, and he took home a little history. The Bedlam trophy was his, or so he thought.
“Right after the game. We beat them at Stillwater when Javian hit that buzzer-beater,” Godwin said. “We were celebrating in the locker room, and I saw it sitting there. I was like, ‘I’m going to take this home.’ Brought it with me on the bus, and Tad saw we walking off the bus with it. He was like, ‘Where are you going?’ I was like, ‘I’m bringing this home; is that cool?’ He was like, yeah, I guess. He was bugging me all week to bring it back, so I just brought it back today.”
Indeed, it’s time for another Bedlam. Not in Norman or Stillwater. Instead, the rivals are meeting at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City (7 p.m. Saturday ESPNU).
OU got a chance to practice at Paycom on Thursday, to get a feel of what it’s going to be like.
“Playing in the Thunder arena is pretty sick. Growing up in Oklahoma—we practiced there yesterday, and I was just kind of in awe getting shots up on that court because I’ve been watching games there since I was like 5, so that was pretty cool,” Godwin said. “But yea, obviously, it’s a nonconference game this year; a little different.”

OU is off to a 9-0 start for the second straight season. OSU is 6-2 but has definitely looked like a better team in recent weeks.
Emotions are going to be high. Godwin knows that, understands that. He just wants to make sure that Bedlam trophy is coming back to his TV stand by the fireplace after this weekend.
“It’s obviously back and forth. We had the overtime game-winner and a pretty close game at home,” Godwin said. “It’s going to be hard-fought to the end, so I just feel like everybody’s got to bring their best game.”
“I got like a little fireplace TV stand sitting right next to my TV. Made a really good centerpiece. I’m going to have to get that back.”
