Sometimes it’s all about perception with OU softball. Because if anybody had said the Sooners went 4-2 vs. Texas and Florida, OU fans would take it.

It’s just the way that it happened. After a three-game sweep vs. the Longhorns and taking the initial game vs. the Gators, not the ending in Gainesville that Patty Gasso and company wanted.

Florida was able to get the best OU one more time, taking down the Sooners 6-4 on Saturday evening to wrap up the regular season.

OU is 43-7 overall and 17-7 in the SEC and has earned the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament. And, oh yea, also the SEC regular season champions.

But the potent Florida offense was able to get to the staff, especially during the last couple of games.

And if it wasn’t the offense, it was Kendra Falby making sure OU didn’t score more runs. She robbed Cydney Sanders of a solo home run in the second inning. Then she did the same to Isabela Emerling for a potential RBI double in the sixth.

Sam Landry was back out there, after throwing 144 pitches in the nine-inning victory Thursday. She had real issues with her control. She threw a season-high five walks Thursday and topped that with six Saturday.

Landry went 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs with the six walks and five strikeouts. She threw 114 pitches, 258 for the series.

Sanders wouldn’t be denied in her second plate appearance. She crushed one off the roof for a solo shot to get OU on the board in the fourth, down 3-1.

Florida came up with the insurance runs and turned out to need them, too. The Gators scored three in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-2.

Freshman Gabbie Garcia blasted a two-run homer to cut the margin in half in the seventh. OU had two on with two out but couldn’t continue the rally.

Time to head to Athens (University of Georgia). OU, the No. 1 seed, will play the winner of the No. 8/No. 9 game in the final contest Thursday.
