It’s going to get tougher for OU softball, but the Sooners are doing exactly what you’re supposed to do against this type of competition.

OU found a power surge Saturday on its way to two more victories. The Sooners took care of Kansas 8-0 in five innings in the afternoon. And then came right back with an 11-0 run-rule victory against Marshall.

Sophomore Kasidi Pickering picked up where she left from the first game. She got things started with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first. The first of three long balls for the now 18-0 Sooners.

Maya Bland and Gabbie Garcia each hit two-run home runs. OU separated itself with a six-run bottom of the third.

The offense had done its job, now let the rotation take over.

It was Kierston Deal picking up the win in the circle. She threw the initial four innings. Paytn Monticelli threw the final frame.

It will get tougher as next week’s opponent, South Carolina, has already taken the initial two games against No. 8 Duke. But the Sooners keep rolling, finding their groove.

OU 8, Kansas 0 (5 innings)

That felt like the OU team of yesteryear. Not about strategy, not about the speed on the bases. Pure blunt force power.

The Sooners hit five home runs and drove in seven of their eight via the long ball.

Sophomore Kasidi Pickering had two on the day to go with Cydney Sanders and Gabbie Garcia as well. Then it was a two-run shot by Nelly McEnroe-Marinas to close out the show in the fifth.

After some rocky moments last week at Love’s, freshman Audrey Lowry had no such issues. And Patty Gasso let Lowry finish it off.

Lowry threw the five scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
