Final weekend before SEC play for OU softball, so if you want to make a statement? Now is the time to do it.

And if you’re redshirt freshman Nelly McEnroe-Marinas, Friday was her day. McEnroe-Marinas hit a three-run home run to help propel OU to a 9-1 run-rule victory (6 innings) against visiting Kansas on Friday evening.

It was her first home run at Love’s Field, and it was one of three deep shots for Patty Gasso and crew. With that type of offense, you let Sam Landry do the rest.

And she did. Going 5.1 innings and earning her fifth win of the season. She struck out eight and walked just one.

Catcher Isabela Emerling also hit a home run and drove in two runs. Star sophomore Ella Parker had four hits, including a home run, and ended the game with a single in the sixth.

This is what you’re supposed to do against these opponents, and it’s what OU did just fine in two games Friday.

OU 9, Marshall 1 (5 innings)

Just kept chipping away, a run here, there until the four-run fifth closed the show. Another banner day for sophomore Kasidi Pickering. She had two hits and drove in four runs.

A couple of freshmen had solid afternoons as well. Redshirt freshman Nelly McEnroe-Marinas had a two-run double. True freshman Tia Milloy blasted a two-run home run.

After allowing the first run of her season in the initial inning, Bella Smith was as good as usual. She threw all five frame to pick up her fifth victory of the season.

Up next

Let’s do it all over again. But flip the order. The Sooners (16-0) will take on Kansas to begin the Saturday two-game day. Then the Sooners will take on Marshall in the nightcap. The Omni event ends against Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.
