Don’t close the book on the OU softball seniors just yet. The season is done. The four-peat was accomplished.

It was history for the Sooners and head coach Patty Gasso.

But maybe another award or two to add to that ever-growing trophy case. OU is nominated for two ESPY awards Thursday evening.

The Sooners are nominated for Best Team. OU has been in this position before, and the list is pretty impressive. It would be a fitting way to send off the seniors, who went 235-15 in the last four seasons in earning the four national championships.

Best Team

  • South Carolina Gamecocks, NCAA Women’s Basketball
  • Kansas City Chiefs, NFL
  • Michigan Wolverines, NCAA Football
  • Las Vegas Aces, WNBA
  • University of Connecticut Huskies, NCAA Men’s Basketball
  • Oklahoma Sooners, NCAA Softball
  • Boston Celtics, NBA
  • Florida Panthers, NHL
  • Texas Rangers, MLB

Before OU could clinch that fourth straight championship, it needed some heroics. That, of course, was provided by Jayda Coleman in the Women’s College World Series semifinals against Florida.

“I had been a little frustrated all game,” said Coleman after the game. “Obviously, I just want to do anything to help my team. I wasn’t really able to do that. Brito, she slowed me down and prayed over me. She was like, Surrender it all. Don’t try to control everything. Go for it. No matter what, I’m not justified by whatever the at-bat is.

“Even though I hit a home run, Jesus still loves me. If I would have struck out, Jesus loves me regardless. I think that put me into my foundation. It’s awesome.”
