OU to play Navy in Armed Forces Bowl

OU will play Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, according to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy. The game will be played on Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.
The Sooners finished the season 6-6, earning its bowl eligibility with an upset win over Alabama. Oklahoma has only played Navy once in its school history, losing 10-0 in 1965. Coach Brent Venables is 0-2 in bowl games with the Sooners. OU is making its 58th bowl appearance, fourth-most nationally, and owns a 31-25-1 all-time bowl record. This is the program’s 26th consecutive bowl game.
New offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle will not be coaching in the bowl game. That likely means co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley will likely be the playcaller for the game.

“Sit back and assess mode,” Venables said of Arbuckle’s role in the coming weeks. “It’s too much to ask of a guy that really doesn’t know the personnel, the people, those types of things. Our staff will handle that.”
As for who starts at quarterback for the Sooners, it would seem true freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. will be the guy. Jackson Arnold is expected to enter the transfer portal on Monday, paving the way for Hawkins to be the starter for OU.
