OU trying to 'stay in character' and finish non-conference perfect
OU basketball is one game away from finishing a perfect non-conference slate. Not many would have thought that to be possible.
That final game? Not one that anybody is sweating. As long as OU does what it can and should, the Sooners should cruise to a 13-0 start.
Prairie View A&M comes to Norman for a 1 p.m. start Sunday afternoon. If OU can win, it will be its first 13-0 start since the 1987-88 season.
These games can be tricky, and they have been for Porter Moser and crew. You have to bring the same intensity, same focus and concentration. That’s not always a given, natural to have a bit of a letdown.
OU has had several stretches of just lulls in the action against inferior opponents this season. Sunday afternoon is the last chance to get it locked down for all 40 minutes before SEC play begins.
“You just don’t want to get out of character,” Moser said. “You want to stay in character. Our character is about staying together. Who we are, when we’re good? We’re connected defensively. We space and share the ball offensively.

“Have different guys who can do different things. What you’re looking for? Is to not get out of character. Understand why this particular team wins and not deviate from that.”
Moser gave the team off from Monday-Wednesday (Christmas) before returning to practice Thursday evening. He said it was imperative for the guys to relax a bit, recharge the batteries and get ready for what’s about to come.
The goal Sunday? Take care of business, stay healthy and get ready for the next phase of the season. OU wilted under the Big 12 grind last season. Now the SEC has looked like the cream of the crop.
The Sooners loaded up on transfers with experience and toughness. This is when it needs to start to show up. Not November and December, but now and going forward.
