OU Week 1 wrap: Blowout victory (51-3), injury concerns highlight vibe in Norman
OU head coach Brent Venables has his weekly press conferences Tuesday afternoon, meaning it’s time to turn the page.
Moving on from what was to what is. For OU? That means putting the 51-3 victory to Temple to bed. And here comes Houston to Norman.
“That’s accurate to some degree, but we still have a long way to go,” Venables said. “We passed the first test. I’m not trying to give coach-speak, but there’s a lot stiffer challenges in the immediate future and I think everybody in the locker room understands that. But at the same time, we’re not apologizing for playing well tonight.
“Mission accomplished, if you will. This will be a season that presents a lot of stronger challenges, and we will figure out a lot about who will are and what we want to be. As I’ve said before, things that we didn’t do last year- we didn’t play consistent, we gave up too many big plays and I think we’re better equipped to handle if we have some guys banged up last year, at safety, at corner … I really like where we’re at from a competitive depth standpoint from what we’ve seen at this point in time.”
