OU's Kendel Dolby undergoes surgery
OU linebacker/defensive back Kendel Dolby wasted zero time, undergoing ankle surgery Wednesday night.
Dolby, one of the best players on the OU defense, dislocated his ankle in the first half last weekend against Tennessee.
Dolby wanted to thank everybody for the support, post-surgery. He will miss the rest of the 2024 season.
“Surgery complete. I wanan say thank you to sooner nation and people around the country who have reached out and kept me in their thoughts & prayers! Genuinely means a lot #Boomer”
Dolby began his OU career in the secondary before being moved to the Cheetah linebacker position midway through the 2023 season.
He was a big-time playmaker last year and was well on his way toward doing that again in 2024. Dolby had 10 tackles and one sack and one pass breakup.

ND coach addresses NFL rumors
“Obviously, that side of the ball, we lost Kendel Dolby,” said head coach Brent Venables on Tuesday. “Just, my heart breaks for him. He’ll be fine, he’ll recover and he’ll continue to have an opportunity to play this game a long time. But he’s a guy that I’ve been bragging on for several months, for obvious reasons and just hate that is a part of the game. You hate that for him. But he’s gonna have a surgery, I believe here probably as soon as tomorrow (Wednesday).”
Because Dolby only played four games this season, there is a chance he could redshirt and return for the 2025 season.
Leaders voice their support
“Yes, losing Kendel Dolby really hurts. One, because he’s a great player, a great athlete. Two, because us in the locker room, we know what he brings to the team. He’s just a guy that you want to be around. And I mean, I’ve said it before, I’d take 100 Kendall Dolby’s on my team.” – safety Billy Bowman
“A situation like that is hard. You want to play for your brother. That’s tragic. Kendel puts so much time in his craft. He loves the Sooners more than anyone else on this team. To see something like that happen, you try to make the most out of it, but just a horrible situation. Kendel plays with 110 percent effort. Someone gets rolled up, it’s unfortunate. It’s the game of football. Every single person has that chance they step on that field. To see something like that happen, I wish it would have been me because I know how much Dolby cares about this sport and everything that goes into it.” – linebacker Danny Stutsman
