The word described by OU basketball was fun for its victory at Kansas State. Hard to blame the Sooners, snapping a two-game losing streak with the win at KSU.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. For the second straight game, it was a struggle for OU at the free throw line.

The Sooners shot 24-for-39 from the line. Hey, 39 attempts are tremendous, but you hope to do better than 24 and just over 60 percent.

Head coach Porter Moser, though? Nope, not worried at all. And you can’t keep your suggestions and advice to yourselves.

“You know, just for everybody, save yourself three minutes of your life and don’t DM me that you walked out in your backyard and made nine out of 10 free throws,” Moser told SoonerScoop on Thursday. “Save your three minutes. Don’t DM me. Because in your backyard I don’t think you got 13,000 people. There’s always other factors in it. It’s like I’m missing a three-foot put at the Masters. You know what? We’ve got good free throw shooters. It hasn’t been a problem. Yes, we missed free throws.

“We work on ’em all the time. So save yourself another 30 seconds, don’t DM me saying ‘Coach, do you ever work on free throws.’ The answer’s ‘Yes.’ But for our guys, they can shoot it. Just get up reps and get ’em. Sometimes the more you make a big deal of it, the more something becomes an issue, so for us, just keep doing (what we’re) doing. Keep getting to that foul line. I want ’em to get to that foul line 30 times. I wanna keep going back to that thing. And this is the confidence I’m pouring into ’em.”

OU was just 15-for-24 from the free throw line in the 85-84 loss vs. Texas Tech last Saturday. We’ll see what the Sooners can do this time around. That’s 39-for-63 in the last two games, 62 percent. That won’t get the job done, at least most of the time.

“I would say it’s just a shooting slump,” forward Jalon Moore said. “We’re gonna start hitting. I’m pretty sure our percentage next game is going to be way better. Guys have gotten in here and gotten free throws up and shots. We’re always working to get better, and I know when our shot’s not falling, our whole team’s in here shooting free throws. Next game, we’re gonna up that percentage.”

No. 23 OU (16-5 overall, 4-4 Big 12) is at Central Florida on Saturday afternoon.
