Nothing like riding the wave with OU basketball. Every game feels like something new. That’s obviously both good and bad.

The last outing? Arguably one of the best of the season. The Sooners were strong when they had to be the most in the 82-66 victory vs. BYU.

OU now has two top-10 NET rankings wins, No. 8 BYU and No. 9 Iowa State. That’s going to work just fine.

Now at 17-6 overall and 5-5 in the Big 12, here comes Bedlam. Here comes Oklahoma State, the same squad that took down OU not once or twice but three times last season.

Head coach Porter Moser is 1-4 vs. the Cowboys. In this week’s SoonerHoop Report, it’s time to change that. And do it in dominant fashion as OSU comes to Norman on Saturday evening.

McCollum wake-up call

It has been the grind for McCollum, but he’s starting to figure it out. What you appreciate is even if a good chunk of scoring is coming from the free throw line, he’s earning the trips.

McCollum is being strong with the ball in traffic and taking the contact. Getting to the line and draining them. And maybe, just maybe hitting those two 3-pointers vs. the Cougars will mean something the rest of the way.

“I mean, my teammates have kept me positive,” point guard Javian McCollum said. “Even though my shot hasn’t been falling the way I want it to fall, my teammates are here uplifting me and keeping me in high spirits and, I mean, I’m really not worried about that. I know it’s eventually gonna fall. I’m always in the gym.

“So at the end of the day, the big goal is to win, get big wins get, these Quad 1 wins out the way and get to the tournament like Los said.”

Bedlam embarrassments not forgotten

Moser likes to stress about treating every game the same. But the players from last year’s team know you do not go 0-3 in Bedlam.

It won’t happen again.

“We’re super excited,” captain Milos Uzan said. “Last year we got we got swept by them, so I’m gonna tell the team how important this game is to us and how big it is to the state of Oklahoma. This is a big, big game for us for sure.”

All that and more in this week’s SoonerHoop Report with Eddie Radosevich and Bob Przybylo.
