Sooners Closing in On Danny Okoye?
Since Brent Venables arrived in Norman one of his primary recruiting agendas has been to make home state players a priority again. All of his focus appears to be paying off with the Sooners once again becoming a force within state lines. And with that in mind the Sooners seem to be nearing a decision from one of the state’s best pass rushers in recent memory – Tulsa NOAH’s Danny Okoye.
Following his unofficial visit this weekend to Norman there’s considerable buzz that the Sooners have jumped to the forefront of his recruitment. In fact, it’s enough for SoonerScoop.com recruiting editor Josh McCuistion to jump in the boat with a prediction for the Sooners to land Okoye.
For quite some time folks around the Tulsa area have been saying ‘Oklahoma is the one to watch out for’ after months of the Sooners being an after thought. A big part of that is Miguel Chavis building an impressive bond with the uniquely-talented Okoye.
Still though many around the program knew Okoye would need to be pursued heavily and let it be known the priority he is. It seems that over his several visits this spring and summer Oklahoma has done that work.

Okoye Would Join Fast-Growing List of Sooner State Stars
Should the prediction be right, Okoye would join a considerable list of Sooner state stars who have picked Oklahoma since Venables arrival. In his first month on campus Venables secured Gentry Williams, who on Saturday started his first game in Norman, and last year landed Taylor Heim, Jacobe Johnson, and Erik McCarty from the in-state pool.
Among the unsigned classes Okoye would join Josh Aisosa, Mykel Patterson-McDonald, and 2022 state player of the year Xavier Robinson. In 2025 Oklahoma already has three in-state commitments as well with predictions in for, at least, two more. And of course this all forgets the commitment of five-star defensive tackle David Stone, an in-state product himself.
McCuistion’s prediction puts Oklahoma as a 90.5% favorite in the recruitment of Okoye according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
