Sooners Facing Worst Fears for Fasusi?
Since early in the season when the Sooners offensive line showed signs of problems, worrying began over the entirety of Oklahoma’s prodigious offensive line class. But no player seemed more at the heart of the concern than five-star commitment Michael Fasusi. The Lewisville, Texas native pledged to the Sooners on August 21 after a massive battle with Texas and Texas A&M.
“I almost committed on the official visit to Oklahoma,” Fasusi told On3’s Chad Simmons back in August. “That visit to Norman really summed it all up. It wasn’t just me, but my family felt it too. The coaches did more than impress me, they made my family feel comfortable and we all felt the love.
“It was just the feeling and the plan on that visit that made a big impact. Hearing the coaches, seeing how they wanted me and that feeling was different.
“Texas A&M made a big move in the spring and I went to Texas that next week for my official visit to make sure of my feelings. When I left Texas, I knew my feelings for Oklahoma were real.”
That storyline of his family’s connection to Oklahoma has long been a big part of Fasusi’s recruitment, it’s an idea he reiterated it just last week with SoonerScoop.

“That’s one thing that gives me hope for sure. Coach [Bill Bedenbaugh], coach [Brent] Venables and talking to them about my situation and how I’m feeling – just keeping me in the loop and reassuring me and my family,” he said.
In fact over the past few weeks Fasusi had, repeatedly, said he and the Sooners were well-bonded.
Things Starting to Turn Away from Oklahoma?
And with that story in mind and a lot of behind the scenes chatter it felt as though the worst was probably behind Oklahoma in their ongoing pursuit of Fasusi. Then on Monday news broke via OnTexasFootball that Fasusi would be in Austin to watch the Longhorns take on Kentucky.
We’ve got more on the situation here but it’s clear that there is smoke to the fire as. That being said the Sooners have been told he’ll be in Norman and will want to converse with him about what might have changed his decision.
As for what that all means? There is no denying that the idea of Fasusi visiting Texas this weekend rather than Oklahoma is a giant red flag. But that being said there are twists and turns left in this and Fasusi’s words for months are hard to ignore. Can he be swayed away from the Sooners so soon after so many affirmations? Time will tell but there’s no denying this is going to be an interesting few weeks.
