(Sooners) 'It's Offensive Line University'
CYPRESS, Texas – Bridgeland offensive tackle Jonte Newman is one of the more sought after offensive lineman in the state of Texas. That’s saying something in 2025 with a loaded class of blockers around the Lone Star State. It’s a statement that almost matches the strength Newman’s own thoughts on his recruitment. Both in the reality of how he sees Oklahoma as well as his overall recruitment.
Sooners are O-Line U for Newman
Newman, who holds offers from not only Oklahoma but Texas A&M, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, USC, and Missouri amongst many others, says that the Sooners are a unique program in his eyes.
“(OU) is offensive line university. If you want to go and be a good offensive linemen, that’s the place to go,” Newman told SoonerScoop.com.
Newman picked up his offer from the Sooners after a strong camp performance back on June 13 and has stayed in frequent contact with Sooners offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
“He’s not going to sugarcoat things with you, he’s always going to keep it real with you,” he said of the Oklahoma assistant.

A Top 3 Emerging for Newman?
Newman’s recruitment is still in it’s very early stages. But with that acknowledged he admits that he has a few schools that are standing out early – maybe a leader?
“That is a place I definitely have in my top three, or even my top one,” he said. “Probably OU, ‘Bama, and Texas.”
Though the three all somewhat connected in 2023, Newman notes the matchup that he was on hand for in Dallas. The big offensive tackle caught this year’s Red River Rivalry and thoroughly enjoyed the show the Longhorns and Sooners put on.
