Sooners Keep 5-Star in the Fold
Oklahoma fans have spent the last few weeks on pins and needles in regard to the recruitment of five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi. Since his August commitment Fasusi has seemed rock solid with Oklahoma and the idea of playing under Bill Bedenbaugh. However a few weeks ago Fasusi shocked most everyone by electing to take trips to Texas and Texas A&M on back-to-back weeks.
The big offensive tackle made the choice of the Sooners over the Aggies and Longhorns at a National Signing Day ceremony at Lewisville, Texas high school.
Back in August when Fasusi spoke of his choice he left no doubt about a big part of his reasoning for the Sooners.
“The Sooners man I love Coach B,” Fasusi told On3’s Steve Wiltfong at the time. “I really talk to him on a deep basis. We talk about things beyond football, about life. He can make me better at the sport and better at life. Just showing a lot of love to me and my family. They’ve always been with us through this process.”
Three months later the Sooners offensive line coach still has a message that resonates with Fasusi.
“I think coach B has just been the same, every time we talk, nothing is too crazy. I can talk to him about the situation and all that’s going on at OU – talk to him and give him a little call out – he’s going to keep it positive,” Fasusi explained a few weeks ago. “He’s reassuring me and the other offensive linemen that he is just ready for us to come in.”

Fasusi Overlooks Sooners Hard Times
Within the same conversation he talked about the Sooners struggles in 2024 and his understanding of how a team could get into the situation.
“I just have to say, they are just in a bad spot. I think this could happen to any other team – there’s a lot you can say with the injured players, you can talk about the play-calling but I believe some of it can be fixed,” Fasusi said.
Oklahoma’s struggles, in the estimation of Fasusi, can be short-lived as the 2025 class arrives and provided some needed help.
“The No. 1 problem is always going to be the players. [My class] goes and we’ll go to the struggle with them and SEC domination can happen. We’ve got the size, the athleticism, from my position to the others.”
