Sooners Need a Big, and Healthy, Year from Andrew Raym
The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2023 Oklahoma football season. It’s the second season under head coach Brent Venables and expectations are high once again. The Sooners are looking to rebound from the uncharacteristic 6-7 season in 2022.
Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 98 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.
Crimson Countdown: No. 73 Andrew Raym
2022 stats: NA
2023 outlook: Few players in Oklahoma’s recent years have had more work against them during their time in Norman than Raym. Though he’s been a multi-year starter time and time again things have seemed to trip him up.
In 2020 Covid struck and limited his off-season work, then in 2021 he missed some of the preseason before an injury caused him to miss Bedlam. Finally, in 2023 in the midst of his best season suffered a season-ending shoulder injury against West Virginia.

However, the Sooners center seems poised for his best in 2023 with an almost fully healthy offseason there’s hopes things could all come together for the former elite recruit. Raym has NFL draft potential and with his experience and continued physical development a bit year can happen.
2023 Interior Offensive Line outlook
Oklahoma returns some good production on the interior offensive line in Raym and redshirt senior McKade Mettauer. But it also welcomes a couple new players from the transfer portal in Miami Ohio’s Caleb Shaffer and Appalachian State’s Troy Everett. There are also high expectations for redshirt sophomore Savion Byrd, who made is first start in the Cheez-It Bowl to end last season. While Raym and Mettauer return, it feels as though all three interior spots could be up for grabs this fall.
