Prediction In: Sooners to Land Wyatt Gilmore?
Oklahoma’s defensive line recruiting seems like a situation that is about to start clarifying itself. And one player that the Sooners seem to have made real headway with is Rogers (Minn.) Senior defensive end Wyatt Gilmore. Following his official visit to Norman last weekend it felt like a prediction was nearing.
And after a week has passed it feels it’s time to make the pick for the Sooners to land the big-time pass rusher from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Gilmore picked up an offer from the Sooners on Feb. 16 and at the time he’d had no real contact with the staff. Since then his relationship with defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis has grown considerably. That relationship was aided by his March 22 trip to Norman just over a month after his offer.
“The campus was awesome, I liked the layout and how the facilities were right next to it. I could see by the way the coaches interacted that they are a tight knit group,” he said of the Sooners at the time. “(I’m) very close with coach Chavis. I absolutely love the guys energy and I admire how strong his faith is and that he is a very knowledgeable coach.”

Minnesota’s No. 4 prospect also took official visits to Miami and Minnesota prior to his Sooners visit for the ChampUBBQ. A visit that Oklahoma clearly hit out of the park for him and his family.
“The visit couldn’t have gone any better,” Gilmore said of his trip to Norman. “I have such good relationships with the whole coaching staff and I think their program is incredible.”
