Sooners Still Very Involved with Elite DE

Few players in recent Oklahoma recruiting history committed earlier than Denton (Texas) Guyer star EDGE Zane Rowe. Fewer still had seemed more steadfast in their decision than the, now, former Sooners pledge. The talented pass rusher committed to Oklahoma on April 21 before the completion of his freshman year of high school.
But on Monday On3’s Hayes Fawcett broke the news that Rowe would be decommitting from Oklahoma. Rowe, who holds offers from not only the Sooners but Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Oregon amongst many others.
Rowe had been Oklahoma’s lone commitment in the class and had said previously so much of his faith was born of his relationship with the coaching staff.
The decision to decommit seems to have stemmed from Rowe’s desire to take trips to see several of the programs who have remained in pursuit of his commitment. And as has often been discussed the Sooners commitment policy allows for no such trips while pledged to Brent Venables and co.

At the time of his pledge Rowe acknowledged that the Sooners had made their stance clear and he was comfortable. Still though, for now Rowe hopes to take some trips and learn of some of his more recent offers.
“I just want to be able to go visit the colleges that have offered since committing and not be disrespectful to BV, [Miguel] Chavis, and [Todd] Bates,” Rowe said recently.
While that all sounds nice for Oklahoma, is there any chance Oklahoma can still remain a real contender in his recruitment?
“OU is still at the top of my list,” he said.
