Oklahoma softball's Jordy Bahl is leaving. We breakdown the reasons why.

News this big deserves a SoonerScoop emergency broadcast. OU and the softball world were sent a shockwave of an announcement when Jordy Bahl announced she is leaving Oklahoma on Monday.

Bahl just completed one of the greatest individual runs at the Women’s College World Series. She threw 24.2 scoreless innings with 33 strikeouts. She went 4-0 and a save in the championship-clinching victory. Bahl earned the Most Outstanding Player honor at the WCWS.

A few excerpts from Bahl’s social media announcement.

“I have decided to return home and play the game I love, closer to the things that have made me who I am and that have always been more important to me than this game,” Bahl said.

Bahl added: “For the last two years, despite the amazing opportunities and accomplishments, my love for home and the acknowledgment of my foundation have grown. Being away from these things has been very tough.”

Bahl departs Norman with a record of 44-2, 397 strikeouts and two national titles.

There are no hard feelings from her teammates or from head coach Patty Gasso.

“We are grateful for her two years with our program and for everything she accomplished,” said Gasso in a press release. “She obviously was a huge part of our on-field success, but what I’ll always appreciate most about Jordy is her approach and dedication to the game, as she’s the ultimate competitor.

“We’re understanding of her situation and certainly want her to be the happiest she can be. We are supportive of her, and she will always be part of the OU Softball family.”

An absolute stunning development.
