SoonerScoop LIVE YouTube: Damonic Williams coming to OU
Nobody said it would be easy for OU. But all is well that ends well. And the end couldn’t get any better for OU and its fans.
Former TCU defensive tackle Damonic Williams made people wait, but nobody cared when that commitment came down Thursday night.
Williams picked Oklahoma over LSU, Missouri and Texas. The Sooners have just eliminated their biggest weakness heading into the 2024 season.
The SoonerScoop crew was in the studio all day, almost literally, waiting for the news to break. Once it did, time to work.
A LIVE YouTube show talking about Williams’ commitment and what it means to OU for the 2024 season. And beyond? What it says about the Sooners when it comes to playing the NIL game.
Williams becomes the third spring transfer portal commitment in the last two weeks. He is joined by former SMU center Branson Hickman and former Louisville defensive tackle Jermayne Lole.
It was never an either/or situation with Lole, Williams. It was always an ‘and’ proposition. Both knew it, accepted it and were ready to roll.

Williams’ message
“Where do I start? This entire process has been a whirlwind,” said Williams on social media. “Sooner nation I want you to know at the end of the day I chose you because of relationships with Coach V & Coach Bates & the staff. They were genuine & I believe in their ability to develop me as a man & a player & prepare me for the next level. I can’t wait to get to work with my teammates!! You will get my best version & my best effort. I am blue collar & I love to compete at the highest level. God Bless & Boomer Sooner!!”
It’s hard to truly put into words what a victory like this means for the Sooners. On the field, national perception, Brent Venables and his ability to lock it down – it’s boxes checked across the board.
There were twists and turns along the way. Funny enough, though? There were supposed to be. Williams stayed true to his word. He didn’t commit after any visit. No matter how good, Williams went to all his stops.
OU was back to visit Williams on Thursday morning. It wasn’t until 8:30 p.m. when the news was announced, but again, the wait was worth it.
