SoonerScoop podcast: A new offensive era at OU

No, OU is not playing for the Big 12 championship. But it is indeed a very busy and maybe even historic week for Oklahoma football.
The Sooners said goodbye to offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, now the head coach at Mississippi State. And welcome Seth Littrell as offensive coordinator and Joe Jon Finley as co-offensive coordinator.
SoonerScoop is back with the Unofficial 40 podcast to break it all down. How we got here, and where Brent Venables and the Sooners go from here.
All that and the banter you come to expect from Josh McCuistion, Carey Murdock, Bob Przybylo, Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia.
New offensive era
Venables is betting big on Finley and Littrell being able to get the job done. The belief within that program is Finley is a rising star in the profession.
The word du jour has been continuity about the decision. It makes a lot of sense to keep the band together with Littrell and Finley now leading the way.
Quarterback Jackson Arnold is a-OK with the move, full steam ahead. You don’t want to go into the SEC having to learn a whole new offense year after year.
What about defense?
We feel pretty confident that the offensive staff is staying intact. Now defense? What’s in the future for defensive coordinator Ted Roof, whose contract is just about up?

The Sooners made a lot of improvement in 2023 but also seem to wither down the stretch for the second straight season.
Any changes feel imminent?
It’s portal time
Not so much recruiting time, but transfer portal time. OU hasn’t been hit hard by the portal at this juncture, but we shall see as the days and weeks go by.
And of course, Venables hasn’t been shy to look to the transfer portal to find some answers. The Sooners will certainly do that again for the 2024 season.
OU basketball is ranked
For real. OU basketball is ranked for the first time under head coach Porter Moser. The Sooners are 6-0 and No. 25 in the latest AP poll.
What’s been the key to the start? Why should OU fans be excited about this team?
All that and more in this edition of the Unofficial 40 from SoonerScoop.
