The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is back for another week. The Sooners are 2-0, but boy did that second victory seem strange.

The five-man crew (Josh McCuistion, Carey Murdock, Bob Przybylo, Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia) is here to look back at SMU and look ahead to Tulsa. Or more importantly, what we need to see from Brent Venables and OU in Tulsa.

The third time was the charm. Pour one out to the two ‘lost pods’ that were attempted to be recorded initially, ha.

OU personnel decision head-scratchers

No other way to say it. Who is being used when and who is sitting on the sideline has been confusing when it comes to the Oklahoma offense.

*Where are running backs Jovantae Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk? Offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby was quick to say he wants to get No. 2 and No. 27 going this week. Why hasn’t it worked out so far?

*Sooners are running a bunch of two tight end sets. Why? Limiting the opportunities for guys like Jayden Gibson and Nic Anderson, among others, seems strange. Is Blake Smith officially the best tight end on OU’s roster?

*Is this Savion Byrd’s final stand? Could Troy Everett actually be an answer at left guard?

*Not a head-scratcher, but Cheetah personnel is going to be very interesting to watch. What if both Dasan McCullough and Justin Harrington are both out? Stoia gives a doom-and-gloom prediction on Harrington’s status.

*It is fun to watch the safeties right now.

Another elite DL decision looms

*McCuistion dives in more on the pending choice from Tulsa (Okla.) NOAH defensive end Danny Okoye. He is down to a final three of OU, Texas and Tennessee. He is set to announce next Wednesday, and the Sooners appear to be in great shape.

*It’s not so much about the 2024 class at the moment as McCuistion breaks it down about how OU is targeting the 2025, 2026 classes a lot more.

All of this and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the crew in the latest Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
