OU quarterback John Mateer sort of floored people by saying he has not played in Norman in more than a month.

But it is true. And now Mateer gets to return with a golden opportunity for OU to do something special. Still very much alive in the SEC race, same with the college football playoff. This game, though, could be a divider.

Hard to imagine both OU and Ole Miss making the playoff. Perhaps equally as hard to see the winner not being favored to be one of the 12 when it is all said and done.

Yep, it’s that type of game in what should be an interesting day of weather and rain and everything that comes with that.

Let’s break it all down. Time for the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop, getting ready for that rare top-10 matchup at The Palace.

We know 11 a.m. kicks are not ideal for recruiting, but what might OU try to get accomplished this weekend in that department, tackle that as well.

Murdock summary

We’re back to big games in Norman as the Sooners have rebounded from their loss to Texas and seem to have found a running game. A big part of this being a big game is also a healthier hand from John Mateer even though we still don’t think he’s all the way back yet. We also talk about the weirdness surrounding Kendel Dolby and Jovantae Barnes as both have been absent from the lineups recently. And we know lots of rumors are flying about Dolby. It’s also going to be an important recruiting weekend in Norman. And with coaches being fired left and right, could the Sooners find some room for some key 2026 prospects as most of the recruiting efforts have turned to 2027? Is it uncool to take your dogs to Lowe’s? It’s a big week. Let’s go!

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
