SoonerScoop podcast: OU, Brent Venables still the right fit for each other?
It’s a bye week for OU, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any fireworks. Administrators, players are coming to the defense of OU head football coach Brent Venables.
No doubt that it has been a grind and a struggle. The initial bye week had OU at 4-1 overall and getting ready for Texas.
This one? OU is 5-5 overall and needed one massive victory against Alabama or LSU to become bowl eligible.
Bye week, but your favorite podcast is back. The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is ready to take a deep dive into the program’s future.
Vote of confidence is a good thing?
Tuesday was a chance to hear it from a couple of different sides. You have OU president Joseph Harroz and athletic director Joe Castiglione both voice their approval for Venables.
Both understanding that 2024 has been rough, but you have to navigate it and get better and figure things out.
That, of course, brings up to the offensive coordinator position. Getting closer and closer to where a Hot Board might be replaced by an actual hire.

What makes sense? Who is the best fit?
Then you had linebacker Danny Stutsman come by Wednesday night, post-podcast, to say Venables is still the guy. Zero doubts.
It will be an interesting month in Norman. And it will get a lot more interesting if OU isn’t able to find a way to take down either the Crimson Tide or the Tigers.
Signing day is coming, but what is it now?
One reason for the keep Venables crowd? Face it, the recruiting class has not flinched, as BV would say. Struggles, but the guys are still connected.
Signing day doesn’t feel like it once did, but we examine what it might all mean here in three weeks when guys can make it official.
All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
