The time is almost here for OU football. We’re now less than a week from preseason camp getting going. But because of that, this week is the definition of the calm before the storm.

Football is on the brain, but the biggest news of the week for OU came in basketball and softball. Some surprising developments.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop returns to break it all down and look ahead to camp. Oh, and time for the final recruiting event before everybody starts to focus on their respective 2024 season.

Under the stars

Every school is going to take its best shot, and OU is in the same boat. The July dead period ends just for this weekend. The Sooners are bringing a bunch of 2026 and 2027 prospects to Norman. Head coach Brent Venables not wasting the moment.

Included in that will be 2026 commits like quarterback Jaden O’Neal and running back Jonathan Hatton. Eyes will be on elite 2026 athlete visitor Brandon Arrington, among several others. It’s an impressive list for OU, especially in the trenches.

Canady to Tech, wait, Tech?

The shocker of shockers Wednesday when former Stanford pitcher NiJaree Canady picked Texas Tech. Not OU, not Texas, not a return to Stanford. Texas Tech. Welcome to the age of Name, Image and Likeness.

The wealth is getting spread out more than perhaps ever before. It is unquestionably a game-changing decision. The question is what will we be saying about it in 12 months, two years? Did it work out for everybody involved?

Road to Omaha starts in Norman

And in case you missed it, OU head baseball coach Skip Johnson stopped by the Scoop studios to talk with Eddie Radosevich about the state of the program.

Johnson is here for the long haul and ready to bring the Sooners into the SEC.

All this and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 by SoonerScoop.
