What a difference a week has made with OU football. We’ve taken a step back from talking about the college football playoff, obviously.

Instead, let’s just get a functional offense back out there. And that’s what head coach Brent Venables and company attempting to do this weekend at Auburn.

It’s time for OU offense 2.0 for the 2024 season to be unleashed. And it’s time for another Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop to break it all down. The good, the bad and everything in between.

Hawkins gets the baton

At least for now, Michael Hawkins Jr. is getting the nod from the OU staff. Hawkins injected some like into the Sooners’ offense in the second half of the loss against Tennessee.

Venables made the call Monday night, picking Hawkins to lead the troops into the first road game. His first start in OU’s initial road game in the SEC.

Not sure what you can expect from Hawkins in such a short period of time, but it will be intriguing to see if the Sooners offense feels different, looks different.

The first 1/3 of the regular season is done, and what do we think about the offensive staff right now? Who is carrying their weight?

Did Hawkins find something with Jaquaize Pettaway?

Injury bug 2.0 (well, more like 5.0)

Every week, it’s about the injuries. They simply have not stopped for the Sooners, especially at wide receiver.

And nobody really knows what is going on with Andrel Anthony and Nic Anderson. Venables has been very quiet on their long-term situation. In the short term? They’re not expected to be suited up anytime soon.

Plus, recruiting editor Josh McCuistion breaks down a huge visitors’ weekend. What did OU do right, even if it wasn’t on the field?

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
