SoonerScoop podcast: OU offensive line musical chairs

The OU season debut was pretty ho-hum from an on-field perspective. The Sooners did what they’re supposed to do in the 51-3 victory against visiting Temple.

But you can’t shake this feeling that maybe things aren’t as rosy as it first appeared. Unfortunately, a couple of injuries can get things off kilter.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is back to dive into all those topics and more as OU gets ready for Houston (6:45 p.m., SEC Network).

Who wants, who can play center?

Simple question, right? But maybe not a so easy answer. The high ankle sprain to Branson Hickman has the offensive line scrambling at center.

A few choices like Joshua Bates or Geirean Hatchett. Or maybe a wild card being thrown in there? With most believing the Cougars don’t pose a real threat to OU (losing 27-7 to UNLV), it’s another ‘it’s about us game.’

It’s about how the OU offensive line figures out its rotation. Will that be set after Saturday night? Or will Bill Bedenbaugh have to go back to the drawing board for another week?

The goal coming out of last week was win comfortably and come away healthy. That was not accomplished, so OU will hope to do that again Saturday.

Next man up mentality, and it will be interesting to see who takes the most advantage of the chances that are bound to come their way now.

Recruits are back

A strange scene at OU last Friday with not one unofficial visitor in town because of the penalties OU faced with violations.

That has come and gone, and head coach Brent Venables is bringing guys this weekend and beyond. The 2025 class is just about wrapped up, any final touches to be made? But the big question is, will receiver commit Cortez Mills be at Nebraska?

Answering that question and a whole lot more. Plus, all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
