Think OU fans are starting to get accustomed to the SEC patch on the jerseys. And OU is officially in the Southeastern Conference, now having participated in its initial SEC media days.

The four-day event wrapped up Thursday in Dallas. The Sooners had their day in the sun Tuesday afternoon.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is ready to break it all down. How different was head coach Brent Venables this time around?

Let’s jump into it.

OU still under the radar?

Nothing that occurred this week really changed that line of thinking. OU, despite all the historical success, is just not being viewed that way in the SEC.

A feeling of the Sooners have to prove it first. You could see the quiet confidence from the three OU representatives. Quarterback Jackson Arnold, linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman didn’t give any bulletin board material. More like, hey, check back in with us in December type of attitude.

The underdog label doesn’t fit OU football all too much, if ever. But that’s the case for the 2024 edition, and you can see the guys are ready to prove themselves right.

Plus, what were the other storylines in Dallas? Who stood out? Is Auburn really cursed? It was an eventful week at The Omni.

Sooners on the hunt, a little déjà vu

It was right around this time last year when OU landed Jayden Jackson. A defensive tackle commitment not many saw coming.

Fast forward to this weekend, and Todd Bates looks like he’s ready to do it again. Nobody viewed the Sooners as a real threat to Floyd Boucard entering the month.

Token finalist? Sure. But legit possibility? So much can change so fast. Boucard is expected to announce Saturday afternoon. And recruiting editor Josh McCuistion gives the preview. Hint – sounds like good news should be coming for OU.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
