FORT WORTH, Texas – Honestly, though, was there any other way for the OU season to end for 2024? One more gut-punch, one more shaking your head moment.

The Sooners looked to be well on their way to a blowout victory against Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. Instead, somehow, it all fell apart as it has throughout most of the 2024 season.

A 14-0 lead evaporated and Navy came up big when it mattered most in a 21-20 victory Friday afternoon at TCU.

OU quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. was sacked on a two-point conversion attempt with :06 left in the game. And just like that, OU is 6-7 for the second time in three seasons.

So many questions for head coach Brent Venables to answer going forward. And so many questions about Venables’ future because, as he would say, you examine everything. Don’t have a choice.

We’ve come this far, you’ve come this far, let’s finish it. It’s time for the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast from SoonerScoop. And it’s time to look ahead toward 2025. It can’t get worse, can it?

Murdock summary:

Oklahoma took on Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl and it was a roller coaster of a contest that the Sooners ultimately lost 21-20. Carey, Eddie and George took to the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast to talk about not just the game, but the season as a whole and why things ended up the way they did. What do OU and Brent Venables have to do moving forward? Is OU moving forward with Venables? And what role will Ben Arbuckle and John Mateer play in saving Venables’ job in 2005. Lots of passion, lots of yelling, plenty of f-bombs, exactly what you would expect after a season ending loss that gives OU a losing record.
