Never a dull week in OU athletics, and we’re not even talking about the guys who are going to get well acquainted with Schmidty this summer.

The Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop is back to recap it all, including some crazy developments with the proposed new arena.

New arena setback?

No other way to describe it. After such optimism last week during the presentation about the new arena coming through, that did not feel positive Tuesday.

It did not go well at the City of Norman’s meeting of the City Council. There was a lot of opposition to the city’s $1 billion entertainment district that would be built around a new arena that would house the men’s and women’s basketball games along with gymnastics events.

We’ll see if Tuesday changes anything at all in the future timeline of how things are supposed to go down.

Camp season continues

Two camps down, three more to go. Brent Venables has done a great job of making camp season mean a thing again at OU.

Offers galore last week, and we’ll see what else happens the rest of the way.

What we do know? 2026 quarterback target Jaden O’Neal is back in town. And if you wanted to circle a 2026 signal-caller for OU? O’Neal absolutely could be that guy.

One camp Thursday, and then it returns next Tuesday and Thursday to wrap things up.

Buh bye to the 11 a.m. kick

And finally, we learned about some time windows for OU football. At most? The Sooners could have two 11 a.m. games. But there is a possibility OU doesn’t have any.

For fans who have been clamoring for later kicks, Tuesday was your day. And the flex component in November definitely means you could see some late ones if OU ends up being as good as everybody is hoping.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 from SoonerScoop.
